Summer Mission Trips

Week-long mission trips are for 8th grade and above.

Camp Bethany Brooklyn

We run a summer camp ministry for kids at Bethany UMC Brooklyn and in the surrounding neighborhood. The day camp is an extended version of a normal VBS to better serve the parents. Science lessons, games, trips to the park, lunch in a public school, and a service project at a local senior center are all part of this trips experience. The purpose of this trip is to get a taste of urban ministry and NYC living (from subway commutes to living from a dorm room at Pratt Institute). Over the course of the week, the kids grow close together while serving and get to come home with not only a great experience but some spectacular friendships.

Camp Bethany EC

During this week, youth will gain technical skills, build relationships with homeowners, strengthen relationships with their fellow youth and adult leaders, and begin to develop a lifelong passion for service in mission. Work teams will do an assortment of tasks. In the past they have repaired a porch, put up a fence, repainted the siding of a house, fixed some windows, and planted gardens for local families. After returning from the work site, everyone joins back together to talk about what they did that day and enjoy a meal together. We touch people’s lives through God’s love and our serving--we repair their homes, help restore their lives, and watch in amazement as their gratitude and love grow for us and God.
